A wedding update …

Carlos has picked his suit and groomsmen suits out. While it is 90% traditional, leave it to Carlos to find his way of getting everyone to smile.

I’ve been consumed lately with the thought of music.

Wedding music.

Love songs.

You know the ones. The make your heart melt. They make your insides turn to fuzzy butterflies as your mind drifts away to that one moment when you felt as if you were floating on a cloud, not a care in the world. The song that reminds you of that moment when you felt like nothing else in the world mattered because all you needed was love.

After the ceremony, we will have a short hors d’oeuvres/drinks hour while the reception area is being prepared. I thought it’d be fun to have love songs playing but I don’t want it to be a bunch of slow, mellow love songs. Our DJ is from Generation Now and I’m 1,000% confident they will blow our socks off (proof? check out their list of SKILLS!) I’d love to give Generation Now a list of songs to play during that hour that range from mellow, mushy to upbeat and ecstatic love songs.

So what do you have for me? What are some of your favorite, past and present, love songs?

I love Carlos’ family.

I mean I LOVE Carlos’ family. And I know some of you may think I am beyond nuts but we are going to have a lot of his family stay with us during the wedding weekend. We rarely get to see them and to be honest, when they are together, they have so much of a comforting feeling. I love it and couldn’t think of wanting it any other way. To give us more space, we figured we better finish the basement – and so the project begins!

We aren’t doing rooms in the basement because of its odd shape – instead, we are just doing one large room with the laundry area separated.   Carlos had someone put up the studs and is doing the insulation himself. He’ll have someone come back out and put the sheet-rock up and then finish the walls himself. We also ordered flooring that we’ll do ourselves, like we did in the upstairs office (faux-wood?).

 The laundry area

The basement already had a bathroom in it and while it is pretty basic and not really a “comfortable” bathroom, in my opinion, we figured we’d get through doing the rest of the basement first before figuring out what to do in there. I’m pretty useless with my arms right now so Carlos is doing a lot of the work. My brother-in-law, Dan, also mentioned he would come over to help Carlos too.

Carlos plans on putting a pool table downstairs and making it more of a man-cave which I’m perfectly okay with. I like being in the kitchen much better!

Our plan is that when his family is here, we can put a few air mattresses downstairs – since it will be in the summer, it will be cool and relaxing. To help prepare me for my big day, I play on staying at a hotel the night before, maybe with my sisters or a friend just to relax and get mentally ready for the BIG DAY.

Do you think I’m crazy for wanting his family to stay with us?

ooohhh — wedding plans are coming along! Stay tuned for more info about save-the-dates and music!
