Oy, I gotta tell you friends, this surgery, compared to the surgery I had in November, has been so much easier so far! {knock on wood!} I don’t know why, but I feel guilty saying that. All went well for my surgery – it was 2 hours in surgery and 1 hour in recovery that flew by. Carlos and I got home around 3:30pm on Friday and I was wide awake. I didn’t feel groggy or tired at all, and wasn’t feeling any pain since I was pumped full of pain medicine from the surgery.
We watched t.v. until about 9:00pm and then, I went to bed. IN MY BED! You know why that is in all caps? Because I slept IN MY BED! I was beyond excited to not have to sleep in the chair this time. I slept in the chair for what felt like weeks last time. I was nervous this time because the incision is on my back but I can still lay on it, I don’t feel anything. I just sleep slightly elevated and all is well. I didn’t take any Vicodin Friday night, just some Tylenol PM and I was good.
I got up all by myself on Saturday, took my medicine and cozied up on the couch with Iggy until Carlos woke up.
I got slightly antsy Saturday afternoon but then remembered when the doctor had to stab me to drain the fluid last time so I sat down and didn’t move for the rest of the night until I went to sleep. I slept again with just the Tylenol PM, no Vicodin. Sunday, I was very good – I sat all day long and only got up to go to the bathroom.
Both Saturday and Sunday, I drank a lot of water and feel very hydrated. I haven’t been very hungry but Carlos is doing a really good job taking care of me and bringing me food. A couple of my sisters came over on Saturday but I decided not to have anyone over on Sunday or Monday. No specific reason, I wasn’t feeling horrible, just didn’t feel like having people over.
I don’t need as much help as I did last time. I can stand up by myself, go to the bathroom by myself, and do almost everything myself. The only thing I can’t do is lift anything. I have full range of motion with my arms but am trying not to move them too much since every time I do, I stretch my back slightly.
All in all, I feel amazing. I don’t feel like I just had surgery at all. My back feels like I got a sunburn but that’s it. I can’t feel anything under my arms and haven’t seen the incision itself, outside of pictures. The doctor told me to keep my compression garment on until Tuesday so I won’t see anything until then.
For those of you who want to see pictures, click HERE and use the password “graphic”. There aren’t as many pictures as last time but just as graphic so I didn’t want to post them in case some of you get squeamish.
I’m not sure I’ll update tomorrow because all I’m doing is just sitting here… nothing very exciting to report
We’ll see if anything fun happens but the view from the chair isn’t very entertaining!
Thank you again for all the prayers and well wishes – I’m on the road to recovery and doing well!
