Hanging in There

by Dawn on March 7, 2013

I just wanted to check in and say hi and let you guys know things are still crazy and stressful, which is why I haven’t been blogging or even tweeting nearly as much as before. I really do plan to get back on the blogging wagon soon but just don’t have the energy or time or focus for it right now. I keep in touch with Jen and Liz about what’s going on in my life and I’d like to give them both huge thank yous and virtual hugs for listening to me!

Just in case we didn’t have enough to worry about right now, our 12 year old dog Cain is not doing very well. He was just fine on Tuesday night and then bam! – on Wednesday, he couldn’t walk and kept collapsing and stumbling. My husband took him to the vet within a couple of hours and they did X-Rays. According to the vet, the recovery prognosis is poor to guarded, and they think that it has to do with his brain not talking to his legs (not to mention his bad hips). Based on my incessant research, I believe it could be Vestibular Disease but I guess time will tell. He could not even walk to the door yesterday without support from both of us, but he was able to walk to the door with light guidance from me this morning. I absolutely don’t want him to suffer but I also don’t want to act in haste since Vestibular Disease attacks subside over a matter of days or weeks. We’ve had him since he was an eight month old pup and he’s been by our side since 2001…so needless to say, it’s really sad to see him like this!

On a lighter note, yesterday was also my daughter’s second birthday! We were lucky enough to get several inches of snow which shut down the government and we all stayed home together. It was awesome! Her ‘big’ party is at Chuck E. Cheese’s this weekend and I’m so excited to see her run and play with her little friends from daycare.

Like I said, I promise that I’ll be back to blogging soon. There’s just so much going on right now and I just need some time. :)

I hope you’re all doing great!

Hey Jen – sending love! I had to say that our 12-year old chow shepard {Max} aka the love of our life had vestibular syndrome late last year and within 48hrs it began to subside. He’s had a couple little episodes since that have last a few hours and then he’s been ok. It was the scariest night I can remember but I did a lot of reading and monitoring him and the outcome has been positive. I hope the same for you and you pup!
