Sorry for the lame blog post title. I’m not very creative (seriously – my mom, sister, and brother are the creative ones!) so I end up with lame. haha.
I mentioned that I am participating in a weight loss challenge at work where I’m on a team with two coworkers. We earn points by working out, journaling our food, taking fitness and nutrition classes at work, and for losing weight. One of the perks is that we receive one free personal training session per week with that caveat that two of the three team members must be present.
We were scheduled to work out with a trainer on Tuesday at 3:30…and then both of my coworkers got sick. I did not want to bail on the trainer at the last minute so I asked if there was any way that I could still attend the session. I learned that I could still attend if I purchased my own personal training sessions and used one of those for the scheduled workout.
It’s no secret that personal training sessions are expensive. I just looked at my old gym’s website and one session is $70. So a huge huge huge bonus of working where I do is that five one-hour personal training sessions costs only $45. Needless to say, I signed up for the package and am excited to put them to good use!
Tuesday’s workout wasn’t as challenging as last Friday’s workout, but my glutes and quads are killing me today so that’s a good sign! The workout consisted of five stations with one minute at each station and five circuits. I warmed up for 10 minutes on the ARC trainer, walked between each circuit for about 60 seconds, and finished with stretching.
This is what we covered:
- Step ups (30 seconds each leg per circuit)
- Push and press (10 lb dumbbell in each hand)
- Goblet squats with elbows to knees (holding 10lb kettlebell)
- Wall balls (8 lb ball)
- 1 minute rowing, staying above 650 watts and between 33-40 spm (she made me stay above 700w for the last 3 circuits!)
The goblet squats were tough on my knees so I made the call to not work out yesterday and let my knees have a break. I am happy that they don’t hurt at all today so I’ll be hitting the gym after work to get in a short run and some more rowing.
I’m pretty confident that I’ll show a loss on the scale tomorrow because I have worked my butt off this week. I’ve tracked my points, worked out (or will have worked out) 5/7 days, and want to keep the momentum going.
Instead of fighting the Valentine’s Day crowds tonight, we’ll be having Skinnytaste’s Crockpot Santa Fe Chicken and I’m sooo excited to try it. I have a feeling that my husband will bring home a cupcake for dessert and I’m absolutely okay with eating it and enjoying every bite.
Do you have any Valentine’s Day plans or traditions? Have you asked your significant other to forego the chocolate for a healthier option or are you indulging just a little bit? Like I said, I plan to indulge in a GOOD cupcake…assuming that my husband actually gets me one! haha!
Happy Valentine’s Day! <3

My husband and I exchanged modest amounts of high-quality chocolate. I still made myself a little sick by eating the whole chocolate heart lollypop. We also went out for lunch together two days before, to avoid the crowds and to celebrate our month-aversary (married 10 years and 9 months).
Me husband always finds something sweet/romantic to do for Valentines. This year he knew I’m on a strict plan so he healthed up his recipes. A yummy, healthy dip with veggies and a few whole grain crackers and then a baked pear with low calorie frozen yogurt. So I ended up going off plan (I forgot to mention the glass of champagne) but it was delicious and I didn’t feel too guilty. I’ve been low on my calories this week so it all will hopefully balance out.
I’ve just started PT sessions and I love them, I go to them feeling so motivated and come home feeling the same. You got such a bargain with the price, do you think you will keep it up regularly?
Glad you enjoyed your PT session. I got a free one when I signed up at my gym, but I haven’t used it yet. I’m kinda scared!!
DAWN!!!!!! I’m baaacccccckkkk! Go you for sticking to your commitment at working out despite your ailing counterparts! That would’ve been an easy excuse not to go. Also, the cheap PT session is freaken sweeeeet! Since I’m pregnant and not abiding by any formal eating plan, I ate a lot of chocolate courtesy of my husband. It was glorious and promptly sent me into a coma.
