Letting Go of 2012

by Dawn on January 3, 2013

Happy New Year to all of you! I hope you all had a very happy holiday season with your loved ones and are excited to make 2013 the best year yet!

I wish I could tell you that I was on point since my last post. That I followed through with my “starting Ripped in 30 tomorrow, no excuses!” and Whole30-ish eating again. I wish I could tell you that I lost or, at the very least, maintained my weight.

I wish I could tell you all of those things…and I guess I could. But I’d be lying.

The honest truth is that I just kind of threw my hands up into the air and didn’t try to do much of anything since the middle of December. I did do day one of Ripped in 30 like I said I would, but failed to continue. I allowed hormones to consume me with sadness and ate a lot of my feelings. I gave myself permission to splurge on soda at Christmas and broke my 85 day soda-free streak. It should be no surprise that I had my biggest gain yet.

Here’s the damage:

Starting Weight: 251
Previous Weight: 212
Gain: +6.4
Current Weight: 218.4
Total Lost: 32.6

I know that part of the problem with December was that I didn’t have a plan or any goals. I also know that I do well when I have a plan in place and something to focus on (examples: half marathon training, 30 Day Shred, Whole30). So instead of lofty New Year’s Resolutions, I’m going to keep my goals small and attainable and update/add to the list each month.

January Goals:

  • Complete another Whole30 cycle.  I originally planned to start on January 7, but to immediately combat the “I’ll start Monday” thinking, I decided to start today. This will obviously run into February.
  • Ripped in 30. My goal is 3x a week until I’ve reached 30 days….again, this will go into February.
  • Hot Yoga  2x/week. I prefer 3x/week but it sometimes depends on my husband’s schedule.
  • Complete half marathon training plan & register for the Marine Corps Historic Half (May 19).
  • Sign up for at least a 5k race in February (I’m eyeing the Sweethearts 4ever 4 miler).

Because of the Whole30, you won’t see another weigh-in from me until February 3rd. (I know, I know…please don’t cry). ;) In the meantime, I’ll be checking in on the above goals, how Whole30 is going the second time around, and some other personal stuff that I’ve been struggling with lately.

Thanks for sticking with me in 2012; I hope we can continue to get to know each other through 2013 and beyond. :)

PFG

I have been reading all the prior fat girl posts for the past few weeks and I have found that I connect the most with you. We are at the same weight at the moment and I look forward to seeing what changes you have expereinced. I too did the same with December and today is the day I started a new. I wish you luck and look forward to hearing more as you help for me to hold myself accoutnable which I have found to be the most difficult thing along this never ending journey. Good luck!

Cheering you on for your whole30. I just started one , too.

I found structure was really important in weight loss. Good for you for setting goals and working them. Go for it. Stay on track. Enjoy your Whole3O.

I love that you are starting now! It is always tough over the holidays, but you’ve got this. You have proven that you know what you’re doing, now you just gotta do it. Thanks for sharing with us!

I started my whole30 on December 26th. 9 days down right now. I will be interested to see what you think the second time around. Did you do the reintroduction part last time?? Did you find any food sensitivities? I am finding it quite a challenge with all the cooking since I have toddler twins but I am making it. Good Luck with round 2.

Oh I hear you on the cooking and I only have ONE toddler! :) I failed to do the reintroduction properly because Thanksgiving was the day after I finished. :/

How is your Whole30 going so far? Did you get the carb flu?

Thought I’d pop in and say hi. I’ve been inspired to do the Whole 30 largely because of you. I need it badly. I’m looking forward to the “reset” as my cravings are off the charts and cookie season has done a number on me. Good job getting focused again!

You have some great goals, Dawn! I’d like to read more about your half marathon training schedule once you have it figured out. I need to start my training schedule and I’m not sure where to begin.

I had a similar gain over the holidays. I know you’ll have lost it AND MORE by the time I see you again! xoxo

Sounds like we had similar Decembers. Mine culminated in an emotional sugar-induced train wreck on Christmas Day.

Here’s what I know, we need to forgive ourselves and be gentle. We need to take one day at a time and make decisions that help us move forward. Gentle and slow.

Sounds like the opposite of what we need when we want fast results and strength, but I think right now the strength is in being kind and gentle to US (and you and I both know that ain’t easy).

So much love for you from Halifax.
We’ve got good things in store in 2013, I know it! xo
