A walk through our venue (a wedding update)

by Jen, a priorfatgirl on March 6, 2012

When we first got engaged, my sister Alicia sent me the website for Five Event Center. After scoping out the website, I forwarded it to Carlos and said “this is where we are getting married.”

No question. I told him if he didn’t like it, I’d find someone else to marry me. HA! Luckily, he loved Five Event Center as much as I did.

We set up a walk through and within a week, we had signed the contract. That was over a year ago. Since then, I’ve looked at the website often, drooling over the photos but we haven’t gone back.

Until last week.

We met our photographer, Stuart, at the Five Event Center so he could also check the place out and start getting ideas of pictures. As I walked around, I tried to imagine what it would be like, a little over 5 months from now, as I float thru the day wearing my wedding dress. I tried to imagine what it’d be like surrounded by 150 of our loved friends and family. I tried to imagine what it would be like saying I do to Carlos.

Stuart LOVED it – he was like a kid in a candy store, exploring all the corners and bold colors.

I got teary-eyed a few times – I’m such an emotional, sensitive sap!

I’ve got some paperwork I have to fill out for Stuart so he knows what kind of photos to take, the time frame, immediate family members and other important photography details. I admit I’ve had the paperwork for over two months and am slightly overwhelmed going through it. So much detail, so much reminder that mom isn’t here and won’t be in the photographs. I find myself procrastinating because I simply don’t want to go through the process.

But then, I see Carlos and know how much my mom loved him. And I know he and I, our wedding, our marriage is all that is really important.

Tonight after work, Carlos and I are going to take our engagement photos. After the sun sets. Downtown. It’ll be perfectly us.

I know our engagement and wedding photos are going to be beautiful, timeless and capture the love we have for each other and the love we will be surrounded with. I know our special day will be perfect, with mom in her front-row seat from heaven cheering as we say I do.

Is there any way the photographer can take a picture of your mom and put the image onto one of you in your dress? Or is that just spooky?

I have seen this before…get your favorite pic of your mom and 8X10 frame it really nice…then include that pic in the wedding and photographs. Hold it in any pick mom should be in!

My mom also passed away and for my wedding we did two things to memorialize her. As I was about to walk down the aisle I stopped and lit a candle that we had made in her memory that stayed lit the entire day. The other thing was I had a single stemmed rose and as I reached the alter I placed the rose in the first seat of the first aisle marking where she would have sat.

I know this special day without your mom is difficult but finding small ways to incorporate her memory into the day will make it easier. Good luck with the wedding planning!

I love the idea of the placing the rose in the 1st seat where she IS sitting ;o)

I love Tina and Chelsea’s ideas. I think I will steal the rose idea if I get remarried, and I’m pretty sure I will :)

Hugs to you; I know what it’s like to lose your mom. My mom’s birthday is Saturday and I’m struggling; it’s been just over 6 months since we lost her.

On a brighter note, gorgeous venue! I’m sure your wedding day will be everything you imagine and more. Congratulations to you both.

I just got engaged and am planning to look at this place too! I’m glad to hear it is as beautiful in person as it looks on the website.

Have fun taking your pictures. Do you like your photographer? Who are you going with? I am looking for suggestions.
