16 Weeks Post Skin Removal Surgery

Can you believe it’s been 16 weeks since my November surgery? Time has gone so quickly!

I feel about 99% back to normal. I still feel a tug when I move the wrong way in bed but for the most part, I don’t even think of my incisions anymore. Here are the scars:

The scar on my arm is starting to lighten up a bit. It feels like a small rope so I keep massaging it really hard to break up the scar tissue. It might not help much but at least I’m doing something. My stomach scar is very flat, some areas you can’t even feel the scar. The color is much more red than the arm but it’s covered up 99% of the time so that isn’t bothersome.

You want to know the best thing in the entire world? My clothes fit so well! My arms fit into shirts and my stomach doesn’t hang over my pants anymore. In fact, the weather has been so nice as of late, I wore a tank top out to dinner with Carlos last night and didn’t even care about showing off my arms! People will probably always be able to see a little bit of my arm scar from behind but it doesn’t bother me. It’s actually much easier to deal with that than the skin.

I still can’t believe I had the surgery and it’s surreal that I’m going back in for another surgery tomorrow. I’ll be glad when this is all over and I can just wedding plan!

  1. Do you read RunningforCookies or Runsforcookies. She had some surgury about last November too. It sounds like she is very happy about it.

  2. I am seriously contemplating the tummy tuck. I’m very undecided on my arms..I think I can live with my chicken wings…not sure yet. Seeing your photos and reading about your experience with the surgery really does help with deciding. You look great!

  3. I’m also getting a tummy tuck in the future after I have babies. My mom did the same thing.

So happy to hear that your clothes are fitting better :) Hope for fast healing!

  4. Good luck with your surgery!

I’ve had 3 c-sections, and your scars will fade in time so they are very light, if it is anything like my c-section scar. You can barely see it – the stretch marks are much more noticeable than the scar!

I’ve always wanted to get a mini-tuck in my belly. I have fortunate genetic make-up in that area where there is just a little loosey-goosey skin…I am afraid though, so I will probably just live with it. (My last c-section was a little touch-and-go, I have tons of scar tissue in there, and I am afraid to get cut open again in my belly)

I’m sure you’ll see a dramatically shorter recovery time for this one, and I’ll pray that all goes well.

  5. You look great! So glad that you can be more comfortable in your clothes.
I tried Mederma (the one for stretch marks) after I had my baby. My stretch marks were VERY dark. Now, they are so light they aren’t noticeable. I was sceptical about using it but had a coupon so gave it a try. It took about 6-7 weeks of using it every day. I am still surprised at the results.

  6. You look amazing!I can just feel the happiness in what you wrote! Congrats, Jen!

  7. That stomach incision line looks perfect! It looks so flat and appears to really be healing nicely. That’s wonderful! The nice thing too is that the incisions on your arms and stomach will only lighten up more as time goes by.

Have you thought about one of those tiny battery-operated massagers that can fit in your purse and use on your arms to break up the tissue and stimulate blood flow? Just a thought.

I can’t believe 16 weeks have passed. Soon this next surgery will be over and then you’ll be able to, as you said, focus on the wedding. How exciting that your clothes are fitting well! That has to make it all worth the recovery!

  8. Congrats Jen! Good luck with the surgery tomorrow. I am sure you will do just fine! The scars aren’t that noticeable that is awesome, you are such an inspiration and I am always glad that you share your stories with all of us.

  9. I’ll be thinking of you tomorrow Jen ! :-)

  10. I always wonder about people in biggest loser…they lose like hundreds of pounds right in front of us and never have lose skin at all…..how do they do it? Is sagging skin associated with weight loss avoidable? This is one aspect of weight loss that scares me not to even try it….

  11. Looking good! Good luck with tomorrow’s surgery. I’m sure it will be just as fine. :)

  12. Good Luck and thanks for the update.

  13. Good luck tomorrow Jen – the scars are just a reminder of how far you’ve come!

  14. Hope your surgery goes well!
Thank you for sharing the pictures. I’m at the beginning of my weight loss journey but the excess skin is something I’m starting to think about. I’m a newer reader so I’ll have to go back and read more about your surgery.

  15. Thank you so much for your honesty about surgery. I’m seriously contemplating the arm procedure (I have no idea what it’s called) when I get to my goal weight. I’ve lost 73 pounds so far and can already tell that the loose skin will be an issue. Your scars look great – it gives me hope! :)

  16. I’m so happy for you!!

  17. I’ll be checking back for updates on your healing. I am curious about if it’s painful, how effective it is, how the scars heal…..As someone who has lost over 100 pounds, I hope to someday have the surgery (after kids) and I am really curious how it all works.

  18. I’m glad your surgery went well. Just a little note to say, like in about a year and a half if you feel up to it. Tanning beds will help fade the redness. I had a vertical emergency c-section with one of my twins and that scar was always really dark red. About a year and a half later, I tried tanning, just like about 4 sessions, not to be jersey shore or anything….and it really lightened up….and has stayed that way. I’m not even a person that goes to tanning beds, but that little bit seemed to be a treatment for the redness of the scar. I tried all the scar disappearing ointments, lotions etc…none of those worked for me.

P.S. Love your blog, thanks for all that you do.
