Being okay with no workouts.

by Jen, a priorfatgirl on October 10, 2011

Guess what I didn’t do this weekend.

Workout.

In fact, I have not worked out or done any activity since the Twin Cities 10 mile a week ago. And I’m okay with that. You know why? Because I felt like my life was pretty insane this past week and I just needed to let other things take priority for a couple days. I felt okay in the most comfortable way. I wasn’t freaked out I’d gain weight back. I still made consciously healthy decisions about what I ate. And in fact, I did lower some quantities because I knew I wasn’t working out and felt satisfied. I probably could have squeezed in a few workouts this week but I decided to just let myself be and allow myself to catch up for a week.

Saturday morning, I got up and went to the Beat Coffeehouse to hang out with some amazing friends. We laughed and shared secret stories. There were a few tears and some moments of quiet. There were hugs and a lot of healthy ideas swapped. I loved it. So much that we are going to get together next month! Yes, the #PFGMeetup will be on November 12th – I’ll put up a separate post in case you miss this paragraph.

After the get-together, I went home and spent FIVE HOURS cleaning and finishing everything around the house to get ready for our re-housewarming party. I managed to sweat and clean my way through the afternoon and jump in the shower just 30 minutes before guests came.

For the party, I made caprese on a stick, fruit on a stick, some chips and salsa and hummus, and some pulled chicken sandwiches. The house looked so much like what I remember pre-tornado. I’m proud to say, outside of the front steps needing to be re-poured, we are OFFICIALLY DONE!

And, would you believe how bad of a blogger I am, I only took one photo all night? Our friend, Erin brought a special dish for Carlos.

Bacon loaded deviled eggs!

Sunday, I spent most of my day tuned out from the world. I decided to turn my cell phone off, ignore my massive to-do list and instead, just existed. Carlos, Iggy and I had a late brunch and then curled up on the couch and watched a movie.

Only around 6pm did I get up, make a quick run to the grocery store, folded a couple loads of laundry and prepped some dinners for this week. Here is what we are having:

Monday: Sloppy Janes, mixed veggies
Tuesday: Chicken, stuffing & mashed potatoes, salad
Wednesday:  Sausage, veggies & pasta
Thursday: Baked pasta & turkey, salad
Friday: Leftovers

And now, I feel refreshed and ready to take on the world again. This morning, I’m meeting Jen for a 5:45am run to get the week started right and tonight, I have my Blogging for Beginners class.

Now you share – how was YOUR weekend and what are you having for dinners this week?

Sounds like a GREAT weekend!! My Saturday was off the charts!! I went to Weight Watchers and was down a whole 6 lbs. My workouts were rockin’ last week I guess!! Then, I, too, joined in the Priorfatgirl Meet Up and had THE most amazing time!! It was fun just talking and not having to explain a whole part of me. Then I ran home to get together with a friend from a former depression group that I used to go to. We had a great healthy lunch and went for a walk along lake Calhoun (where we bumped into my trainer!). After that, I had time for a quick nap before having dinner with another friend and then being interviewed by her for a project that she is doing for her OT program at school. That left me totally drained and ready to do absolutely nothing on Sunday except blogging :) Well, I ate a little bit here and there and talked to a person or two, but otherwise I took a much needed break from life.

Food this week is iffy. I know, shame on me. It looks like I have some ravioli, wheat spaghetti, cheesy rice, & mashed potatoes with fish sticks this week. Then, I get paid on Friday and will go shopping either Sat or Sun :) Yay!!

Working out Monday, Wednesday and either Thursday or Friday with Trainer and then once or twice by myself this week. Going to also try to do yoga in the mornings to get some extra energy flowing :)

Have a great run!!

My weekend was good but busy! Super great weather here so tried to stay outside as much as possible. Winter will be here before I know it.

I have some leftovers for dinner since it’s looking like it’ll be a hectic week. Lots going on every day.

Housewarming parties are so much fun. Sounds like lots of good eats too!

Taking a conscious week-long break from working out is actually a GOOD thing every 4-8 weeks. Well, they recommend it in ‘The New Rules of Lifting” anyway. The break gives your body a chance to recover from all the miniscule muscle tears you receive when weight-lifting.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Awesome! I can’t believe I made the only picture! Also, those bacon eggs went really quickly – no suprises there.

Also, I had a really great time at the party. Your snacks were not only healthy, but super delicious. I met some good people and had some great conversations!

Ruby – the olive ones made my night!

I am SO EXCITED that I can come to the next coffee meet up! No plans that day and it’s in the calendar.

I only ran one day last week, 5 awful miles on Thursday. I did my other workouts, but after such a big race I just lost my mental committment to it for a while. This mornings 5-miler? Awesome. Back in the game :)

Saturday was so much fun – thanks again!

I skipped a bunch of work outs this weekend too. This week was insane and I needed a lot of time to just veg. I don’t really ever feel guilty for not working out – it’s when I don’t eat well. But I guess (hope) I will get better and better at it in time!

I am thinking I may just let your meal plan be mine this week! Looks like things I have on hand, and would likely eat :D
I had such an amazing time on Saturday. The meetup was amazing as usual, the conversations and insight was brilliant, and I always feel blessed to share a room with such wonderful people.
Saturday night was lovely as well, thank you for opening your house to us! I hope things are feeling more like a home and that you are settling back in :)
I am looking forward to next month already!!
