banoatmeal

by amanda on August 13, 2010

i know i’m behind the times when it comes to mixing things with my oatmeal, but i just made the leap. here’s what happened:

i was eating my morning banana as i always do, but i knew this banana was on its last day. let’s be honest, two days ago was probably its last day. i ate the first half and just couldn’t finish it. so i think to myself, “amanda, why don’t you mix the rest of this already-mushy banana into the oatmeal you’re going to make in a half hour.” self, you’re a genius!

the spice of my cinnamon swirl oatmeal blended harmoniously with my sweet banana and created a major mouth party. i had to put down my spoon between bites to keep me from shoveling it all in.

i can only imagine what it’ll be like when i use an ENTIRE banana tomorrow. i’m going to use true delights hazelnut latte oatmeal this time. oh the excitement!

michelle suggested that i freeze my very ripe bananas and use them for smoothies. love that idea … but i know how i am with actually following through on making smoothies. i have good intentions to, but then i get lazy. i think mixing too-ripe bananas with my oatmeal is just the ticket for me! hardly anything to clean up. minimal brain power required. yeah, buddy!

what do you mix with your oatmeal? anything? EVERYTHING? dish.

as much as i love (and i mean LOVE) peanut butter, i just don’t think i’ll care for it in my oatmeal. i bet i would if i didn’t get the already-flavored instant packets. duh. why didn’t i think of that before?

bananas rock my world.

banactopus.

ring ring ring ring ring ring ring bananaphone (photo cred: my food looks funny)

i wonder if they make banana cat costumes ...

i want this!

that's right. a lego version of george michael and gob bluth at the bananastand. be still my heart.

bananas 2010 wooooooo!!!!!!!

you’re welcome for those :)

only a couple more jam-packed weekends for me. here’s my plan of action for this one:

  • friday evening: dan rodriguez concert at brew at the zoo. (check out dan. good stuff.)
  • saturday morning: oil change, renew apt lease, go for a run.
  • saturday afternoon: wicked!!!! (for the fourth and final time. probably.)
  • saturday evening: fundraiser for my friends’ kickball team. come, twin citians! it’s cheap!
  • sunday: go for a run. possibly bowling and/or yoga with emily?? i swear i’m forgetting something …

happy friday, all! share your love.

Funny!! I agree that Bananas should TAKE OVER THE WORLD. I cannot eat oatmeal unless it’s been fully ‘nanner-fied (aaaand contains an ass-load of cinnamon). I also add protein powder to the mix for an utterly fulling and totally well-rounded meal!

I’ve had proatmeal (or proats!) every morning this week. Yum.

WIN!

OMG, a banana stand!?!? How awesome! My husband and I love Arrested Development and still watch it on DVD all the time. We also saw Jason Bateman on The Daily Show this week and he said they’re scripting an Arrested Development movie. Can’t wait for that one!

Have a great weekend!

I love oatmeal. If you want to mix it up a little you can make some oatmeal banana cookies.. You take a pack of the instant oatmeal, add a 1/2 of a mushy banana and enough water so that it sticks together. Drop it by a teaspoon and bake until it looks dry on top. Very yummy!! Quick breakfast you can eat in the car or at your desk!!!

I had to comment, because this same mixture has been a recent love of mine and for some of the same reasons, to use those ripening bananas. Now I LOVE bananas in my cinnamon oatmeal, and for a special treat I like to add the PB – yes, even to the cinnamon oats. I only eat cinnamon or plain. Going to look for the other one you mentioned.

Have you met Lori at http://www.findingradiance.com? She makes awesome looking oat concoctions. I haven’t tried them yet, but they look so delicious and she’s the one who mentioned the bananas in oatmeal.

Have a great weekend!

Canned Pumpkin pie mix in oats is amazing! Also – taking the raw oats and mixing it with greek yogurt is delish!

When I have over-ripe bananas, I smash them up with peanut butter and then add a bunch of muesli and mix it all up. It looks pretty gross but OMG does it taste amazing.

As for oatmeal, I use plain instant oatmeal to make pancakes. :)

i had to comment on this!
i make “plain” oatmeal, using real oats with unsweetened almond milk, i add bee pollen and a t or 2 of flax, i add a T of pb and a T honey, the last step is to mash up a very ripe banana stir it all up and it tastes like cookiedough! really, i thought pb in my oats was gross too but its SOOOOO good!!
