5K in 29:00

by Jen, a priorfatgirl on April 18, 2010

What an emotional day Saturday was. The Challenge Obesity 5K. A repeat of the first 5K I ever did – last year, my mom and my dad were waiting for me at the end. This year, just my dad.
My mom did the 5K with me-in spirit,
her memory secured around my neck
and close to my heart.
My friend Erin @ Five Dollar Day came
out and helped take pictures. THANKS ERIN!

Pre-race jittters.
Pinning my number on.

I was the 4th largest weigh
loss participant in the race.
Runners 1-4, all who lost 100+lbs.

Mary @ Fit This, Girl and I, pre-race.
And we’re off!
My goal was to finish with a better
time than my April 2009 5K time of 30:06.

Half way through the 5K, I’m on the right.
Coming up to the finish line.

I had done it – I finished in 29:00 exactly.

I was so overwhelmed with emotions.
Immediately after crossing the finish line,
I saw my dad standing there pumping fist
screaming “YOU DID IT!” I ran into his arms.
And we both cried.
Tears of bittersweet joy.
(I know, not flattering – but emotional & a very important picture.)

I had finished the 5K in under 30 minutes and
all I could do was fight back the tears.
Finally catching my breath.
Mary was the 3rd women
to cross the finish line.
Cindy‘s first 5K – she totally rocked it and
looked amazing crossing the finish line.
 Mary, Jeneatte, me and Cindy.
The entire morning was emotional. A true roller-coaster.
I have to be honest, I really don’t enjoy running as
many of you seem to do but what a sense of accomplishment.
I never in a million years thought me,
a priorfatgirl, would run a 29:00 minute 5K.

I never in a million years thought me,
a priorfatgirl, would run a 5K.

I never in a million years thought me,
a priorfatgirl, would run.

Mom, I dedicate this 5K to you.
I imagined you looking down
from heaven, cheering my on
the entire time. Thanks for jumping
up and down for me!

Did you run a 5K Saturday? Don’t forget to send me your beautifully sweaty pictures and I’ll do a prove to the world you and me, we are fighting for our healthiness journey. Pictures should be sent to jen@priorfatgirl.com.
