The Day My Life Changed...

I started on my journey in August of 2007. For two years I fought, kicked and cried my way through losing 90+lbs. I was well on my way to hitting an official 100lbs lost by August 1st, 2009 which was my 2 year anniversary. I was planning a big 'ol celebration around here... until my life changed the evening before my final weigh-in. (Click here for more info).

Join me now, as I reevaluate my priorities, struggle to find out what "healthy" is while dealing with an emotional trauma, and continue to learn how to live a healthy life, no sugar coating included.

So logical

I loved all your comments yesterday about my obsessiveness-carb habits lately. I love the fact that so many of you made a really good point:

Instead of cutting out carbs,
try just balancing in other foods!

HA, that would be...so...logical! Why didn't I think of that! For the past couple of days I've been walking around thinking that I had to cut back on my carbs when you are right, instead of thinking I have to cut back on carbs, I just need to look at it as adding in more other foods.

Ya'll are so smart!

Here's what I had for lunch & dinner yesterday...to help even things out a little & balance my eating.

YUM!

  • 1lb ground turkey, browned
  • 1 packet of taco seasoning
  • 1 can chick peas, drained
  • 1 can corn, drained
  • 1 can black beans, rinsed & drained
Brown ground turkey. Mix taco seasoning in with ground beef & let cook for 5 minutes. Add corn, chick peas & black beans in a bowl & add ground beef. Stir all ingredients together and separate into separate containers...perfect alternative to a frozen meal and so filling!

2 cup serving = 360 calories
Crabby at the gym
Gym update. Remember how I mentioned last week I only went to the gym 2x and both times were for a personal trainer appointment (thank God for personal trainer appointments!) Well, I did my Monday evening personal trainer appointment and had every intention of going on Tuesday after work but we had a snow storm (yep, 2-3 inches now constitues a "storm.) I skipped the gym.

Yesterday, I woke up with a sore throat & chills both of which lingered all day. I knew I needed to go to the gym because I couldn't allow for ANOTHER excuse to win. So after work, I forced my crabby, chilled self to the gym and ran for 30 minutes. I hated every minute of it but did it anyways. Now, I can say I went to the gym. WAHOO!!!

Christmas at our house
Just wanted to share some Christmas spirit with ya'll. I had my outside Christmas lights hung up by Halloween (but didn't turn them on until Mid-November).

Our stockings hung by
the chimney with care.

Our Christmas tree. We'll get
presents under there soon enough.

Book Arrived
Remember a couple of days ago I mentioned that I finally jumped on Amazon.com and got the book ya'll have told me to read?

Wahoo!! I finally got it and CAN'T wait to start reading it! Now, just to find the time! HA, who has time!?!

I haven't figured out how yet to do the "book club" but that'll come in January sometime. Until then, if your game to read it with me, make sure to get your copy. At the beginning part of January, I'll start the book discussion so be ready! Can't wait - it seems so far away!

Cool Article
And, in case you missed my Twitter update & Facebook updates yesterday, click here for a way cool awesome article from That's Fit.com I can't believe that's me, that I'm "woman blogged her way to a 100 pound loss.!" It's so weird to see me referred to as a "woman" - I'm me, not a "woman!" YEAH!!!

Today...well, I'm still not feeling well. You know that tingle in your nose right before you sneeze? I've had it since yesterday and now its painful. My head hurts and nose is running so I'm going to go curl up and sleep the day away.

I thought also before that the best way to lose my bulging tummy is cut back on my carb intake. But since I can't live without rice, I have finally realized that the solution to my problem is not to fully take out rice but to also avoid sweets and sodas and junk food. I hope you feel better soon!

Your lunch/dinner looks really yummy! Good job for making it to the gym even though you really didn't want to go. I find, myself, that getting going is sometimes the hardest part. Once I'm there, I'm glad I pushed myself over that initial hump.

I like the Nutrition Facts for your recipe! Is there a program online that creates that for you? I'd love to use it!

I still say eat what ever you want only small portions. I lost 40lbs eating 6 small meals a day and not eating after 5 or 6 pm. I go to bed hungry alot but wake up happy. Good luck.

Jen Jen Jen - balance is the key to anything and yes, you need to not think of the negative (too many carbs) but think positive (where can I add more f/v to my day)...and you did it...good job!

RE: Gym..if it weren't for my drill sgt. neighbor, I would've missed Wed/Thu work outs...I was going to use that snow day yesterday as an excuse and she wouldn't let me...so now here I sit, typing with the only part of my body that doesn't hurt, my fingers...the rest is out of order due to soreness...but I feel good and know that it is all worth it in the end...that's my gym story for today...love ya, cuz K

SO as I was reading I couldn't help but thinking that your taco mix would be so good in a tortilla. Boo. But I will definitely have to try that mix.

Hey, there! I, myself, just lost 65 pounds in 5 months. And you have it right- eat less, eat better, and move more. I think the key is moving more- when you don't work out, you lose touch with your body completely. Working out won't lose you the weight- eating less is critical- but it will keep your metabolism up, burning more calories, and also will firm and nurture your body. The biggest warning sign after weight loss- and the one that will signal weight gain- is stopping the workout routine- even if it is just walking, it must be maintained forever. So there it is!

That recipe looks amazing! I am going to have to save that and try it sometime! I feel ya on the carb issue. I however am going very low carb for a while. My eating was out of control. It seems to be working for me for now, but it's only been 3 days :)
