I don’t know why, but I have that song in my head. And those really are they only words I know, “They say it’s your birthday!”
And rightfully so, today – yes, I will admit it here, today is my birthday. I’m trying to smile but really just want to go upstairs and cry. They (whoever “they” are) say that the first year after someones passing is always the hardest because you spend each event, holiday & special day grasping reality of who is NOT there vs celebrating as they would have liked you too. I am going to try my darndest to smile today but have decided to work from home in case I have a melt down.
One year, my mom made a carrot cake on MY birthday and sent it to my sister, Melinda’s work with a note that said whoever ate a piece of cake had to email ME and say “happy birthday, thanks for the cake.” I miss my mom and wish she was here to tell me happy birthday in the super creative way she always came up with.
HOLY HIBISCUS
Remember that hibiscus tree my friends Stacie & Deanna gave me? Well holy super size, it blooms these amazingly beautiful flowers!

Bananana Attack
I love banana’s. Banana bread, banana cereal, banana nut muffins, banana anything and everything. Sometimes I eat 2 or 3 a day. I am pretty sure I love them even more then Amanda, another priorfatgirl who just last week did an ENTIRE POST on banana’s! Crazy gal, she is!
Anyways, the other morning, I was thinking about my breakfast and how when I put my psyllium husk in my oatmeal, it gets SO thick. I add more water all the time but something in the psyllium husk makes it this weird consistency and it doesn’t even come off the spoon!
So I had a brain storm idea (ok, not really brain storm cuz I know most other food bloggers do this so I really think I’m just a little late to the party).

Hot Mouth

I must immediatly follow it up with these:
I know my mom would want me to just turn the music up and dance but bleck, sometimes it’s okay to just maintain status quo. Tonight, I will have a “haven’t.seen.you.in.awhile” dinner with our friends Toby & David and Mandy & Jacques but it’s not a birthday celebration.
Tomorrow night, my mom’s best friend is coming in from out of town so we are going to have a get together at my parents house so I’ll be around lots of family this weekend which makes the world seem like a better place.
