Are you a “cheater”…?

Hey guys! I’m back, as promised! :)

So, this post is actually going to have a focus and a point (so unlike me!)!! Let’s talk about “cheat days”. Do you guys have one?

I’ll be completely honest here… actually, I’m completely honest in every post I write, so this will be nothing different. I have a “cheat day”. I NEED it. Okay, maybe that’s being rash, maybe I don’t NEED it, but I like it. A lot. :)

My cheat days are Friday’s. When I FIRST started on this journey, I had cheat weekends. Yes, you read that right, cheat WEEKENDS. I was basically off plan ALL weekend and I would wonder WHY I wasn’t losing weight. Well, shucks – I bet I know why now! You can’t just “throw in the towel” on the weekends. It just doesn’t work like that. Look, theoretically speaking, if I would have a cheat weekend, every weekend, basically from Friday to Sunday for the month of September, I would be OFF PLAN for 12 days out of 30. That’s being OFF PLAN 40% of the time. That’s almost being off plan for half of the month. How stupid was I!? Of course, I didn’t look at it like that. I sure do now!

So a little further down the line, I realized, yeah, this cheat weekend BS isn’t working out for me. So, I STUCK to just having my cheat day. I chose Friday’s because I weigh in on Friday morning and so, I figure I have a whole week to get back on track. I also chose Friday’s because that’s when Adam and I have our “date night” – so I figured I could let myself go a little bit on Friday’s when we go out to dinner. This cheat day thing worked out okay. But I’m evolving.

Right now, as it stands, I pretty much have a cheat MEAL. My cheat meal is Friday’s when Adam and I go out to dinner. I’m on plan all day on Friday, I’ll eat my cheat meal with Adam, and then I’m right back on plan. I’ll be honest and admit to you that yes, sometimes it is more than just my cheat meal. Sometimes I do still slide a little bit on Friday’s, but I track my calories. When I had cheat days and cheat weekends (how stupid does that sound!?!?!) I wouldn’t even count my calories. I would just eat until I felt disgusting. Gross.

Sometimes, my cheat meal changes days, but for the most part, I stick to Friday’s so I can enjoy my meal out with Adam and not think AS MUCH about the calories (I still think about them and I still count them, I just don’t obsess – I let it slide a little bit).

What do you guys do? Do you have a cheat day? Do you think cheat days are good ideas or bad ideas (for YOU)? Sure, you might think cheat days are horrible, for YOU, but for me… it works, so let’s not knock each other. We’ll all here doing what works for us. For now. We’ll evolve in our plans, and maybe we won’t. Maybe what we do RIGHT NOW is working great for us and we’re sticking with it. This is working for me. I don’t anticipate a huge change anytime soon, but who knows what the future holds.

In the beginning, I didn’t think cheat days were a good idea (although I had them) – but my thinking has changed. My cheat meal allows me to have my little splurge, get it out of my system and get back on plan. And really, MY plan doesn’t have restrictions. I can eat what I want, in moderation… my cheat meal isn’t really a cheat, it’s just another decision.

I’d love your feedback, ideas, comments, hate mail, constructive criticism, you get the idea! :)

Still Smiling! :)

Hello, hello, hello! Happy Hump Day! I’m so sorry for not getting here to blog yesterday. Yesterday was just a crazy, busy day for me!

Yesterday was house inspection day! So, I took the whole day off from work since my home inspection was at 11am and then I was meeting with my loan officer and realtor at 2pm. I decided I deserved a day off. :)

The house inspection went AMAZING! Nothing, NOT ONE THING, to be concerned about. My house passed with flying colors. AND the inspection cost less than I had anticipated, so that was a nice surprise. :)

After the inspection, me, my mom (yes, I need hand holding, I’ve NEVER bought a house before!), and Adam stopped and got some lunch. Here’s what I ended up with…

(white cheddar mashed potatoes, Cajun shrimp, steamed broccoli)

I ate about half of the potatoes, 3/4 of the shrimp, and all of the broccoli. It was really good. I had been craving shrimp for a while now, so I decided to splurge a little bit. I rarely get shrimp at home since not everyone in the family is a fan of seafood, but I love it! Yes, it is fried, so it’s not the healthiest, but I ate it in moderation. I brought the left overs to work today for lunch, I’ll have about a forth of the shrimp that’s left, half of the taters that are left and a salad I bought at work. Yum, yum… making me hungry! AND I counted all of the calories! I’m telling you, I LOVE MY NEW PHONE. The calorie counter on it is so amazing. I was able to look up the restaurant we ate at, which main dish I got with which sides. So, I’m confident that I tracked the calories correctly, which in the past, I would estimate sometimes and I’m sure I wasn’t right now (no wonder I wasn’t losing any weight!) I did a sneak peek at my weight this morning while I was getting ready for work, the number made me smile! Obviously, who knows what Friday’s weigh in will be, but if it’s what it said today, I will be happy. I know I have a long way to go, but making baby steps in the right direction are encouraging!

So, after lunch, me and my mom dropped Adam off at home and headed out to meet with my loan officer and my realtor. Everything went well there too! REALLY well! Wanna know why…? I got my closing date moved up by a week! I’m scheduled to close on October 30th! Which is PREFECT since my birthday is on November 14th – I think we’ll have enough time to paint and decorate and all of that stuff in time to have a house warming/birthday shindig at my new place on my birthday. I’m so excited. :)

After we finished at the mortgage place, Adam and I went out to his mom’s to see her new house. HOLY HUGE! They got a great deal! Good thing too, since they had to wait FIVE MONTHS to get it! (I highly suggest staying away from short sales if you are planning on moving…. it’s nothing but a drawn out nightmare, in my experience! Unless you have the time to wait, then, feel free! Because you WILL wait.) After spending some time catching up with his mom, we headed over to his great grandma’s to say hello. We weren’t there for long since it was getting late, we just wanted to stop by since we hadn’t seen her in a loooong time. That was a nice visit. :)

So, basically yesterday, I was out of my house from 10:30am until about 8:30pm. It was a long, wonderful day. But I am sorry for not getting here to say hello to you guys, please forgive me! :)

I’m going to keep this short (…? I guess not very short anymore!) because I fully intend on having another post this afternoon to talk about “cheat days” since I didn’t get that in yesterday. So, stay tuned!

Have a wonderful morning!

Father Daughter Date

Well friends, we made it half way through the week – hopefully ya’ll are making the best outta your week. I’m doing good. Thanks for being patient with me as I continue on my roller coaster of emotions. I’ve been a lot more down in my posts then normal and I appreciate you being understanding.

A day of goodness
On the positive note, I did my best to keep a smile on yesterday and made it a good day. Eating was good AND I made it to the gym for my run! WOOT WOOT! YAY ME! I started my week four of the training…

  • Session 1: 68 min. Run 10 minutes/walk 1 minute; Run 15 minutes/walk 1 minute. Run 20 minutes/walk 1 minute. Run 10 minutes

ok ok, I actually stopped after 45 minutes but I swear it was because I had to get back to work. I know I could have gone the last 10 minutes. I’m going to do some elliptical on my lunch today, maybe just 30 minutes or something.

My goal for Wednesday is to keep it positive. I will continue to take Wednesday one decision at a time. You too?

Father Daughter Date
Last night, I had a father daughter date. My dad is a hunter – and he frequents a game farm called
Wild Wings in Hugo, MN (45 min from Minneapolis). Last night, they had a dinner for their members and my dad asked if I would accompany him – SO I DID! We had a great time!

The view from the club house.

The menu.
(I was a little hesitant.)

Appetizer…Duck Quesadilla
Verdict: It was good, I’ve never had duck
before. I couldn’t really tell a difference.
Tasted like chicken.

Salad, no dressing

My dad got the pheasant wild rice soup. I tried
a spoonful and it was good but I’m not a
fan of wild rice soup in general.

Quail Fettucine, pork chop, asparagus & applesauce.

Verdict: The quail was good. I ate the sauce off the top,
didn’t eat the noodles or the asparagus. I ate 1/3 of
the pork chop and the applesauce.
Dessert was vanilla cream cheese pie for me.
Verdict: Delish! I left 2 bites on the plate…
just so I could say I didn’t eat it all!

My dad got the bread pudding. I’m not a fan of
bread pudding but tasted it…just for you guys
and lemme tell ya, this was AMAZING!
Great group = Great conversation!

Great dad = great dinner!

Overall, it was a great dinner and I had a great time with my dad. It was good to get away and just relax over dinner. It wouldn’t normally be my first choice for a restaurant but I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised at dinner.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s post – I’m making spaghetti squash for dinner tonight and per your request, will take plenty of pictures to share with ya’ll!
