Full force rant – not for faint of heart!

If your reading this, that means you made it through the weekend
Congrats & Welcome Back!
Edited to add disclaimer: I went on a little rampage throughout this post and posted some very personal opinionated thoughts. Comments are open to the public, I encourage you to say what you truly feel – by no means am I always right, by no means am I perfect. If you are a regular reader of my blog, you are fully aware of the constant struggle I face every day. Today must just be a day when I’m feeling rather strong. I contemplated posting this but here goes:

What I’m about to share with you is something that I hope gives you a reality check (although if you count your calories, you already know this). Do you really REALLY know what you eat? If so, I bet the “healthy” stuff your eating is in a quantity much larger then what it should be therefore it is not healthy anymore.

Did you know the average American eats 3800 calories a day? Oh, not you, you say? I beg to differ. Anyone who reads this and has NOT taken 3 or more days out of their “busy” life to record EVERYTHING they eat is an American that eats 3800 calories…until you can prove me otherwise. That is the average – meaning some people eat MORE! You think that chef salad you ate for lunch is healthy? You are lying to yourself. Every day, you think you are making sacrifices… and at the end of the day, you complain “blah blah, waa waa, I ate a salad today and I didn’t loose weight” All that cheese, the croutons, the dressing? Don’t kid yourself!

Give it up – just eat the flippin cheeseburger already and be happy with your decision!

Sorry this is sounding harsh I’m not sorry, you need to hear this . But let me share something with you – because of where I am and what I have done in the past 1.5 years, people share there struggles with me. Which is good, I love the fact that I can give people the motivation they need because I remember what it was like. But I also remember how often I would call my friend Nicole and say “I really have to do something” and then would ask if she wanted to go out to eat. I hear people tell me they try to loose weight & eat healthy and then 2 minutes later, I see them eat a piece of cake. (I am the first to admit that I myself did this for 10+ years!!!) Here is everything you need to hear: Don’t waste your breath trying to convince ME that you are doing something, when in reality, the only thing you are trying to do is convince YOURSELF that you tried, so that when you don’t loose weight, you have the excuse that you tried. If your going to loose weight, don’t do it half-assed. All or nothing. I wish someone smacked me around a little, told me to stop complaining, stop making myself feel better with excuses and just do it. (although I’m quite confident if someone did, I would have told them why I couldn’t do it and explained all the ways I’ve tried and how its never worked)

Okay…I know I am going on a tangent. This all stemmed from an article I found that showed what 300 calories really looked like. Here are the pictures from the article but if you want, click here to read it in a separate window.

Chances are, you are eating 600+ calories per meal. So given that, let’s go with 600 calories X 3 meals per day is 1800 calories PLUS the 200 in the bottle of coke you had with lunch, and there is 2000! That doesn’t include the cream you put in your morning coffee, the piece of chocolate you ate or the bag of chips at 3pm. Now…if you are someone who goes out to eat, let’s say you order a sandwich & fries – that is 700-900 calories, which moves your caloric intake higher and higher. (I did not excel in math, so don’t worry about correcting my multiplication if its wrong, you get the idea hopefully)

Look carefully – just a baked potato w/ sour cream & salsa, and a little bit of melon is 300 calories…but most people don’t eat just that. They add a big ol‘ piece of meat to it, plus maybe a dinner roll or another side dish such as corn or something – now your meal is closer to 1000!

Soup…great, 350 calories! But who eats JUST a bowl a soup? No way, most people eat this with a 1/2 sandwich with also has 400 calories, and now your meal is 750.. (plus whatever your drinking with this!)

Do you see where I’m going here? Am I sounding like a broken record?

I guess what I’m saying here is that being healthy takes WORK. It takes discipline and dedication. It takes saying no to things. Being healthy & watching what you eat means making daily sacrifices. How easy would it be for me to just say “I can’t, I can’t, I can’t!” And if I did, there would be no blog, there would be no dreaming of a “I just lost 100lbs” party, there would be no “good job, Jennifer!” You think this was easy for me? You think I just woke up and said “oh, let me go to the gym?” No flippin way, I bust my butt to do this, I sacrificed and gave things up. And so can you! (I stop here to again say that there are many days that I do struggle, but I try to remind myself that skinny people don’t eat McDonalds 3 times a week).

You all have this in you – but in order to get to where you want to be, you need to know where you are. Don’t lie to yourself. (this is the true source of a yo-yo diet). Record your calories for 3 days and see what your dealing with, so you know how to move forward.

Oh man, I’m out of breath typing this! So many of you share your stories, frustrations and experiences with me. Feel free to continue doing that – I enjoy being a source of motivation to you. But I am not the person who can help you. You are in charge – so until you are ready to do this whole heartily, enjoy the chocolate.

Become your own motivation!

Wow, I truly got myself all worked up!

Done.

When you receive motivation & inspiration from me, pay it forward.

Jen

p.s. I hope I didn’t loose anyone by this post!
