First an update…I gained 2lbs. EEEKKK…157 – oh well, trying to stay positive about it. Carlos keeps reminding me that muscle weighs more then fat (he is so good at helping keep me positive). I know this, and I know that my jeans I bought in May & June are too big. It is harder to accept and truly believe it. Some days are harder then others; and I’ve had a couple of hard days in a row. I am taking yesterday through Sunday off from the gym, hopefully that will give me the mental break I need and kickstart my mood on Monday. Otherwise these last 15 (or I guess 17 now) are going to be very very tough – poor readers, ya’ll are gonna have to help with a lot of motivation for me!
Okay, who out there gets their recommended fiber intake? No one? That’s what I was thinking. Take a look at the nutrition label of all the foods you eat in one day; chances are, only a few of them have fiber in it! Most of us don’t; and unfortunately, it is the best secret weapon we should have in our back pocket…or in our stomach for that matter! Fiber not only helps to keep your digestive track clean and moving, but also helps keep you full longer. Fiber helps to eliminate waste that could otherwise be stored in your body. It also helps prevent cancer and control cholesterol. So what are you doing still reading? Get your butt to the grocery store and get some of these foods that are high in fiber!!!
Recommended fiber amounts for women is 21 to 25 grams a day and for men is 30 to 38 grams a day.
1 Cup Black Beans – 15 grams
1 Cup Raspberry’s – 8 grams
1 Cup Peas – 8 grams
1 Cup Broccoli – 5 grams
1 Medium Pear – 5 grams
1 Cup Corn – 4 grams
1 Cup Strawberry’s – 3 grams
*Friendly disclaimer (Carlos, stop reading!): As your body adjusts to the new level of fiber you are consuming, you find yourself toot toot tooting…don’t worry – this will go away as you adjust. Also, drink water; fiber absorbs water so you will need to drink a little more when you increase your fiber intake.
When you receive motivation and inspiration from me, pay it forward!
